V E R A - Episode 1

“V E R A” is a series created by Ulrich Koller and me. Together we crafted the general concept after which we each concentrated on our own department. Ulrich wrote the screenplay for the first episode and directed the piece. I created the visual concept and worked as the director of photography. The pilot episode “Der Arzt” (in English: The doctor) was shot in May 2022 and is currently in post production (Editing by Ulrich Koller).

Bernhard is a doctor and researcher working in a pharmaceutical lab. Since his wife’s death due to an illness that could not be cured with the current medical solutions, he has been researching the illness to possibly find a cure himself. This was all in preparation for the case that the illness turns out to be a genetic disorder which might endanger his only daughter, Vera. She is an investigator in the police force and regularly gets her blood checked by her father.

One day Bernhard’s biggest fear becomes a reality, but he doesn’t tell Vera about his discovery. Instead he indulges into his research, however due to his insufficient performance at work the company displaces him into a forensic psychiatric hospital where he should work as a doctor. At first Berhard is devastated to lose the direct access to the lab, however in this new environment he finds a new opportunity to accelerate his research. Though his methods could be seen as… questionable.
